Editorial Independence

The Journal of Progressive Islam (JoPI) operates with full editorial independence. All editorial decisions are based solely on academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, without influence from sponsors, institutions, or political or ideological interests.

Peer Review Process

JoPI employs a double-blind peer review process:

    • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.
    • Reviewers are selected based on subject-matter expertise.
    • Authors’ and reviewers’ identities are concealed throughout the process.
    • Editorial decisions include: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject

The Editor-in-Chief holds final responsibility for editorial decisions.

Manuscript Originality

Submitted manuscripts must:

    • Be original and unpublished.
    • Not be under consideration by another journal.
    • Demonstrate clear scholarly contribution.

All submissions undergo plagiarism screening using reputable detection software.

Authorship and Contribution

Authorship must reflect substantial scholarly contribution, including:

    • Conceptualisation or design.
    • Data collection or analysis.
    • Interpretation of findings.
    • Drafting or critical revision.

All manuscripts must include an Author Contribution Statement.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research or editorial process. Where conflicts exist, appropriate steps will be taken to ensure impartiality.

Ethical Compliance

Research involving human participants or interviews, surveys, or ethnographic fieldwork must state approval by a recognised ethics committee or provide a justification where formal approval is not required.

Retractions and Corrections

JoPI follows COPE guidelines in handling:

    • Retractions
    • Corrections
    • Expressions of concern.

Misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism, will result in rejection or retraction.

Open Access and Copyright

    • Authors retain copyright.
    • Published articles may be made available under a Creative Commons licence (to be specified).
    • JoPI supports ethical open-access dissemination of knowledge.

Publication Ethics Statement

The Journal of Progressive Islam is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics and aligns with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
